Trapani Airport (TPS) to Salemi

Travelling to Salemi from Trapani airport ? Follow these directions to get to Salemi in 30 minutes.

Simple direct route across country. Easy to follow and only 1 major critical direction decision, then the rest is simple. If travelling by night some of the journey is on a long country road, which may appear never to finish. But hold faith keep on going straight and eventually you will arrive in Salemi.

Directions to Salemi from Trapani (TPS)airport, Sicily.

1. To exit the airport drive out of the main car park keeping the airport terminal to your left.
2. Goto the first roundabout  (100 metres from airport exit ).
3. Do NOT take the first exit to Marsala  (this is the critical direction decision)
4. You MUST take the 2^nd exit signposted "SV Marsala Mazara-Salemi".
5. Then follow the road straight on for approx 5km, going through a few tunnels and at the end of this road (it becomes a T junction, the flashing lights warn you) turn left as indicated here.
6. As you turn left you will see Marsala hospital on your right (remember this you never know!) It looks like this.
7. Follow this country road SS188 straight on without turning off it (it is called Via Salemi) and it will take you directly to Salemi approximately 20 km away from the hospital. Do NOT turn off to Trapani go straight on to Salemi at all times as shown here.
8. You will eventually leave the Marsala district as shown here.
9. You will go past some big wind power generators on your left as seen below.
10. Eventually following this road winding through the soft hills(approx 20 minutes), the roads both open up and further on get narrow. Don’t worry your on the correct road to Salemi. There are plenty of signs to Salemi (always straight on), some like this :
11. And then finally you will enter Salemi district.
12. Follow the main road through Salemi, keep your eyes up to the left to see the castle. Look out for the round tower !!
13. After which you will gradually descend upon a roundabout (you enter from the north). This is called Piazza Liberta.
14. Be careful with the precedence and park up ANYWHERE for a well earned coffee at the bar in the south east corner.  You are in the centre of Salemi. If you are brave (narrow roads) follow the brown signs to "il castello" (enter via amendola and turn left at the fruit and veg shop) you can also park there in front of the castle or simply park up and ask for directions to the castle “il castello”, a 5 minute walk.
