The salemi wine festival takes place in the Carmine Theatre, which is an
open air theatre in the historic centre of Salemi.
Around the wine lake there are empty wine barrels, which are not only
decorative but will be used for people to squeeze grapes with their bare feet
in the traditional manner. There will also be the chance to have grape baths,
similar to mud baths, but obviously with grapes.
Many local vineyards will be present for a wine tasting competition.
Sunday’s festival will conclude with “Attimi di Vita” “Moments of life” a dance
show by Cinzia Cona
Recently the Milan mayor, Moratti banned under age (16) drinking,
consequently the controversial Salemi mayor, Sgarbi, announced Salemi as the
city of wine and invited all the youth of Italy to come to Salemi where they
are allowed to drink wine.
